About Us
Glasgow University Cycling Club is for anyone who is interested in cycling. We welcome all abilities from commuters to racers and strive to create a community of people who love bikes.
What can we offer you?
If you love riding your bike, you have come to the right place. Our club is all about cycling at any level from recreation to racing. We are active in road, track, mountain biking, cyclocross and BMX in Glasgow and the West of Scotland. However seriously you take your cycling, we hope you'll join our friendly, inclusive club and get the most out of cycling while you are at the University of Glasgow.
Training
We offer 2 spin classes a week, weekly weekend road and mountain bike rides that cater to all abilities, midweek road rides, track training sessions and a weekly S&C session plus plenty of trips and socials!
Social events
What is a club without a social side? We run lots of socials including the famous lycra hive and grand tour events as well as pot lucks and casual pub trips, there is something for everyone. Anyone is welcome to join our social events, so bring your friends along too!
Group rides
On weekends, when Scottish weather allows, the club runs several group road rides. We usually have 3 groups going out which include a short, intermediate and advanced ride so you can pick what group is right for you. All groups have a cafe stop mostly at our cafe sponsor St Mocha for some discounted treats! If you are new to cycling or just new to Glasgow, we can show you the way around Glasgow's roads in a safe and social environment. All rides have a ride leader who will look after you! MTB rides are also organised each week at different locations in and around Glasgow. They are also led by a ride leader who will show you all the best trails in the area!
Somewhere to get fit
We can get you fit! Whether you're into cycling outside or not, our 2 weekly Revolve Studio spin classes and Strength & Conditioning sessions can help get you to where you want to be. Our Revolve classes offer a great cardio hit and the S&C sessions can provide an introduction to weightlifting, stretching and general fitness. These are all transferable skills and applicable to whatever your passion may be.
Racing
Want to dip your toe into racing or continue competing throughout university? Many of our club members race road, track, cyclocross and mountain bike. There is a wealth of knowledge throughout the team, with everyone having a varied background in how they started cycling. Each year we subsidise entries to local races, BUCS and SSS, as well as supporting riders with access to transport. Whether it is your 1st race or your 100th the club strives to support riders racing at all levels.
Events
The club holds various events throughout the year. We have previously organised:
‘SSS Time Trial Championships’ (Quite a few times!)
‘Crits on the Clyde Round 2'
'Glasgow University Bella Crit'
'Cross at the Cube' around Garscube'
to name a few!
We enjoy working together as a club to showcase the roads and circuits around Glasgow. There is lots of scope to get involved with organising events, which is a very rewarding role in the club.
Community
Cycling is a versatile sport. From long days on the saddle to sweaty sessions in the Revolve studio, the things that remain constant are bikes and socialising! No matter your fitness, ability or experience, we have an amazing community for you to join.
Insurance
It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the appropriate insurance cover for any activity you take part in. Upon joining, please check the level of insurance cover we, as a club, provide to you.
GUSA recommends that all students playing high risk sport, go abroad to compete/train, or are playing in governing body leagues, may want to consider/need to take out personal liability insurance, or join the sports governing body to be covered. Some insurance providers also offer specialist sports cover.
