About Us
Glasgow University Fencing Club is one of GU's most successful sports clubs. With a friendly atmosphere and training sessions for all abilities, all are welcome, from beginners to experienced fencers!
We run a range of sessions and cater for fencers of all abilities; those new to the sport can join our beginner's courses to learn the basics of fencing under the supervision of our qualified coaches, and for experienced members we have teams regularly representing the university in BUCS leagues and individual competitions.
Teams
We have two open (M1, M2) and and two women's (W1, W2) teams, all competing within the Scottish Conference League.
Additionally, there are lots of opportunities throughout the year to compete in both team and individual competitions, with additional beginner-only competitions ran regularly.
Socials
We run regular socials both for GUFC only and jointly with other local clubs, along with a weekly pub trip to Bank Street after Friday training. We also organise trips away to competitions in Scotland and abroad, open to all of our fencers.
Socials include Christmas and end-of-year dinners, potlucks and subcrawls, as well as our annual Last Duel event held in the GUU – the location of Scotland's last sword duel in March 1899.

Insurance
It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the appropriate insurance cover for any activity you take part in. Upon joining, please check the level of insurance cover we, as a club, provide to you. British Fencing provides a 90-day-long free insurance cover, intended for beginners and those new to the sport. For more information, click here.
GUSA recommends that all students playing high risk sport, go abroad to compete/train, or are playing in governing body leagues, may want to consider/need to take out personal liability insurance, or join the sports governing body to be covered. Some insurance providers also offer specialist sports cover.
