We run a range of sessions and cater for fencers of all abilities; those new to the sport can join our beginner's courses to learn the basics of fencing under the supervision of our qualified coaches, and for experienced members we have teams regularly representing the university in BUCS leagues and individual competitions.
Any questions / messages can be directed to our club email or Instagram, found in the Contact Us section of this webpage. All important links to forms and sign-ups can also be found in our club Linktree here.
Teams
The club operates two Mixed (M1, M2) and two Women's (W1, W2) squads to compete in BUCS competitions. For the 2026-2027 season, our M1, M2 and W2 teams will be competing in the BUCS Scotland Tier 1 League, and following their recent promotion victory our W1s will once again be returning to the BUCS Premier North League, the highest level of competition in British university sports.
Tryouts for all of our teams will run at a TBC date (usually late September), and more information will be available in due course on our Instagram.
Additionally, there are lots of opportunities throughout the year to compete in both team and individual competitions, with additional beginner-only competitions ran regularly. We also organise trips away to competitions in Scotland and abroad, open to all of our fencers.
Fight Night
One of the highlights on the Scottish university fencing calendar, we host our annual Fight Night every January! Watch as fencers from 6 universities duke it out over 12 team and individual bouts full of passion, drama, and an unforgettable atmosphere.
Fight Night 2027 has been confirmed to take place on Friday the 22nd of January 2027 in the GUU (Glasgow University Union). Further updates will be available in due course on our Instagram, whilst additional event information, as well as tickets, may be found here.
Socials
We run regular socials both for GUFC only and jointly with other local clubs, along with a weekly pub trip to Bank Street after Friday training. Socials include Christmas and end-of-year dinners, potlucks and subcrawls, as well as our annual Last Duel event held in the GUU – the location of Scotland's last sword duel in March 1899.

Training takes place in the Stevenson Building, in the Activity Hall and Studios 2 & 3. All required specialist equipment is available to borrow from the club for free, you'll only need to bring a sports top, long leggings or tracksuit bottoms, sports shoes and water!
