About Us
Glasgow University Judo Club is one of Scotland's oldest and most active judo clubs! Founded in 1953, we boast expert coaches and offer varied, engaging sessions! Our mat is open to everyone!
Judo is an Olympic martial art in which your goal is to overcome your opponent, whether this be by throwing them to the ground or holding them down on their back. Translated to 'the gentle way', judo is about respect and discipline. The judo community is a friendly one, open to everyone who is keen to try the sport! GUJC trains every Wednesday and Saturday in the Stevenson Building, Studio 2. However, the community doesn't stop at the mat, every Wednesday, after training we head to our sponsors the Old Schoolhouse, for some food and a few drinks (soft or not).
Judo is for everyone, and there are lots of different reasons why you should join judo;
Competitive
Judo is a highly competitive sport, with various competitions lined up throughout the year (both student and national), all culminating in our BUCS Championships, which are held this year in Walsall, March 14/15th. There are also opportunities to travel abroad to compete, as we have done previously to the Ippon Cup in Oslo, Norway!

Recreational
However, there is no obligation to compete. Judo is great for your overall physical and mental fitness. It is a fantastic stress relief that will keep you sharp and on your toes! Everyone always has new things to learn - and our coaches are fantastic at teaching, with high-up competitive backgrounds, they are an asset to GUJC and are always keeping us at our best!

Training
GUJC trains twice a week:
Wednesday: 18.00 - 21.00
Saturday: 10.30 - 12.30
Studio 2, Stevenson Building, 77 Oaklfield Avenue, Glasgow, United Kingdom
Insurance
It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the appropriate insurance cover for any activity you take part in. Upon joining, please check the level of insurance cover we, as a club, provide to you.
GUSA recommends that all students playing high risk sport, go abroad to compete/train, or are playing in governing body leagues, may want to consider/need to take out personal liability insurance, or join the sports governing body to be covered. Some insurance providers also offer specialist sports cover.
