About Us
Welcome to Glasgow University's very own Mixed Martial Arts Club! We offer fun and friendly classes accessible to all skill levels.
Mixed Martial Arts is a combination of different fighting techniques from the fields of striking and grappling. With a fun and challenging environment provided by our accomplished coaches, the club is the perfect entry point for anyone who wants to learn anything from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to boxing. It is also a great place for more advanced members to hone their skills and develop their knowledge of a wider range of martial arts.
Training Times
We host two one-hour sessions on both Monday and Friday. Our training covers martial arts including boxing, kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and wrestling.
On Monday, we focus on wrestling, covering a variety of takedowns and grappling techniques while standing. On Friday, we cover Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which includes a wide range of submissions, guard positions, and techniques for controlling your opponent on the ground.
Coaching
The MMA society boasts high-quality coaching. Our head coach, Jeff Acke, from Griphouse, is both an experienced MMA fighter and a qualified fitness coach, giving our lessons high instructional and fitness value.
Our secondary coach, Ivan Gernmanoff, is a highly skilled BJJ expert with many competition wins and experience teaching both wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
How to Join
Before you can buy a membership for the MMA society, you must first have a Club Access membership for the Stevenson Building. You can then purchase a year-long membership for £50 or try out one semester for £40.
Socials
The MMA society hosts socials every other week, either on our own or jointly with other societies. These include pub crawls, theme nights, and more. It is a great way to meet people, find friends, and get closer to the other club members.
