Whether you’re a complete beginner wanting to learn a new skill, a one-time player looking to get back into netball, or a seasoned player ready for your next challenge, Glasgow University Netball Club (GUNC) has something for everyone!
Improve your fitness, develop your netball skills, make lifelong friends, and be part of a welcoming, inclusive club while playing a fast-paced, highly skilled sport.
Training
We train at The Glasgow Academy and the Stevenson Building, with sessions available for all experience levels.
Our Performance Squad follows an intensive training programme, with multiple sessions each week including strength & conditioning (S&C) and court sessions. Our 3s and 4s train on Monday evenings, while our 5s and 6s train on Thursday evenings. Our Recreational and Development squads train on Tuesday evenings.
Performance Squad
Our Performance Squad is a high-performance, competitive environment designed for players who are committed to training and competing at an elite level. Players can expect 5-6 high-intensity sessions each week, including court sessions, S&C and other performance opportunities.
The squad competes at the highest levels across multiple competitions, including the Glasgow Netball Association (GNA) League, BUCS and Netball Scotland National League.
3s & 4s Squad
Our 3s and 4s provide a competitive and fast-paced environment for players with experience of playing netball at a relatively high level.
Sessions are challenging and designed to continually develop players’ technical, tactical and physical abilities. The squads compete across BUCS and GNA, while also providing an opportunity for players to develop their skills and work towards progressing into the Performance Squad.
5s & 6s Squad
Our 5s and 6s provide a fun and competitive environment for players looking to develop their game and compete at university level.
Training focuses on improving individual and team skills, building confidence and preparing players for competitive BUCS fixtures throughout the season.
Recreational & Development
Our Recreational and Development sessions take place on Tuesday evenings and are open to players of different abilities.
Whether you’re completely new to netball or have played previously and want to get back into the sport, these sessions provide a fun and welcoming environment. Sessions are challenging enough to help you improve your skills and fitness, but without the pressure of competitive fixtures.
Teams & Competitions
GUNC currently has six teams competing in the BUCS university leagues, with opportunities to compete at a range of levels.
Our teams currently compete in:
Our 1s won BUCS 1A last season and progressed to the North Premier 2 Play-Offs, representing an exciting opportunity to compete against some of the strongest university teams in the UK. Additionally, our 3s won BUCS 3A and our 4s won BUCS 5A. Both teams have earned promotion and will compete in higher divisions this season, reflecting the continued growth and success of GUNC across all levels of competition.
Alongside BUCS, GUNC also competes in the Netball Scotland National League, Scottish Cup and Taxis Cup - an annual competition between the three universities in Glasgow: the University of Glasgow, University of Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian University.
Our 1s, 2s and 3s also compete in the Glasgow Netball Association (GNA) League, with our teams currently playing in:
GNA 1s: Division 1
GNA 2s: Division 2
GNA 3s: Division 4
With such a wide range of teams and competitions, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved, develop your game and compete at a level that suits you.
Joining GUNC
Being part of GUNC isn’t just about playing netball - it’s about becoming part of a welcoming, supportive and social community.
Throughout the year, we organise a huge range of social events for our members, including themed nights out, sub-crawls, pub quizzes, Christmas dinner, dodgeball, fundraisers and plenty more! We also host our annual club ball, The Net, where we come together to celebrate the end of another season.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the appropriate insurance cover for any activity you take part in. Upon joining, please check the level of insurance cover we, as a club, provide to you.
GUSA recommends that all students playing high-risk sports, go abroad to compete/train, or are playing in governing body leagues, may want to consider/need to take out personal liability insurance, or join the sports governing body to be covered. Some insurance providers also offer specialist sports cover.
