About Us

Glasgow University Table Tennis Club (GUTTC) is a fun and friendly community. We have sessions for all from completely new to more experience players.

About

Glasgow University Table Tennis Club is a great community for experienced table tennis players as well as complete beginners.
We have three sessions a week, hosted either in the Sports Hall on Level 5 of the Stevenson Building or at Drumchapel Sports Centre.

Sessions

Our Monday sessions are club sessions hosted from 16:00-18:00 in the Sports Hall. Our Thursday sessions run from 16:30-18:30 in the Sports Hall. Our Sunday sessions are competitive focused, taking place from 14:00-16:00 at the Drumchapel Sports Centre. All equipment can be provided by the club at all our sessions so everyone can come along whether you have equipment or not.

We have Terry McLernon MBE, a level 3 coach in Scotland and chairman of Table Tennis Scotland, as our head coach. So whether you want to play recreationally or practice for a championship, GUTTC is here to help.

Recreational Session

The session on Monday will be a more structured session with our head coach (level 3) leading these sessions, with help from our student volunteer coaches (level 1 coaches). These sessions are more focused towards developing the basics of playing table tennis.

The session on Thursday is a more recreational session. This session will be open play so everyone is encouraged to play everyone and have a bit of fun. Both the recreational Sessions take place at the Stevenson Building, in the Sports Hall on Level 5.

Competitive Session

These sessions are fully structured by the coaches and are most suitable for members that want to develop their game further, newer players are also welcome to these sessions. Feedback on these sessions in particular have been highly postitive from all our members during previous years.

These sessions take place at Drumchapel Sports Centre, a group of us will meet to take the train from Partick every week. If you are unsure of how to get there please come along.

Competition

We have one Men's and one Women's team competing in the BUCS League that is run by Scottish Student Sport (SSS). There is an annual singles competition, BUCS Individuals, that takes place in Nottingham. There are also various other competitions throughout the year.

Socials

We have more organised socials like our annual potluck/picnic and weekly wednesday ping pong tournament at the Hillhead Book Club. We have lots of new ideas planned for this year that we can't wait for you to come along to.

Membership

Our membership options are as follows: the recreational membership which allows access to our Monday and Thursday sessions that comes in annual or semester one only options, and the competitive membership which allows access to all the sessions (including Sunday).

Insurance

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the appropriate insurance cover for any activity you take part in.  Upon joining, please check the level of insurance cover we, as a club, provide to you.

GUSA recommends that all students playing high risk sport, go abroad to compete/train, or are playing in governing body leagues, may want to consider/need to take out personal liability insurance, or join the sports governing body to be covered.  Some insurance providers also offer specialist sports cover.
