About Us

At GUTC we pride ourselves on being incredibly welcoming and inclusive to everyone. Whether you are a beginner or have been bouncing since you could walk, everyone is welcome to join!

We have had great success at past competitions and hope to continue for years to come. Trampoline is a very inclusive activity, no matter your gender, ability, or age. We train at a UK-renowned facility, a 10-minute minibus journey away from the university campus, which gives us access to 8 trampolines, a double-mini trampoline, and a foam pit. We have the best facilities of any other university club in Scotland. It is easy to get to know others in the club, as when you are not bouncing, you are often spotting others who are bouncing, allowing you to chat with other spotters.

Competitons

All competitions that we attend range in levels from complete beginner (novice) to uber-elite. You can compete in trampolining, on the double mini trampoline or in synchro (where you perform a routine at the same time as another gymnast). At training, with help from the competition secretary, you will get to try out routines to find out what best suits your ability. Everyone is welcome to attend competitions, with your individual entry fees being included in your membership; however, you can also come along just to spectate and cheer on your fellow teammates. GUTC is part of Scottish Student Trampoline (SST), which organises our 3 league competitions and our training weekend. The 2nd competition is the biggest within Scotland and is called SSTO, which stands for Scottish Student Trampoline Open. Individuals across the UK and sometimes abroad come to Edinburgh for a super fun competition weekend! Each league features socials with a range of themes. League 3 will also include Bouncy Ball – a big end-of-term celebration for all Scottish Student Trampoline members, which includes awards for the year. We are also fortunate enough to travel to Ireland to compete in a 4-day competition, as well as to England for competitions from time to time.

Recreational

All members of our club are rec members, and some then choose to compete. There is no pressure to compete; many of our members just come along for the fun of training.

Training

We currently have 4 sessions per week. Each trampoline session has coaches available for different trampolining levels and for double mini trampoline (DMT). There is also always an opportunity for free bouncing without a coach.

  • Monday 20:30-22:30 – Sparta Trampoline Club
  • Wednesday 20:15-22:00 – Stevenson Building (in the Sports Hall)
  • Thursday 20:00-22:00 – Stevenson Building (in the Sports Hall)
  • Sunday 14:00-15:00 – Stevenson Building (Studio 1 Gym Session)

You can go to as many or as few sessions as you would like. There is no minimum amount per week. Comfortable sportswear is recommended, including socks and trainers. No jewellery or watches are permitted on trampolines, and long hair must be tied back.

Socials

Between competitions, training, and well-deserved rest, GUTC hosts a wide range of inclusive get-togethers. Nights out and nights in, themed and 'just show up', potlucks, game nights and Christmas Dinner (to name only a few) – our social calendar is extensive and caters for all! These are perfect opportunities to get to know people and make new friends!

Insurance

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the appropriate insurance cover for any activity you take part in. Upon joining, please check the level of insurance cover we, as a club, provide to you.

GUSA recommends that all students playing high-risk sports, going abroad to compete/train, or playing in governing body leagues, may want to consider/need to take out personal liability insurance, or join the sports governing body to be covered. Some insurance providers also offer specialist sports cover.
