About Us

At Glasgow University Volleyball Club, we take great pride in our commitment to supporting all members.

Regardless of whether you have a passion for recreational volleyball, a drive to compete in BUCS, or simply seek some fun at our social events. Our club fosters inclusivity and extends a warm welcome to everyone, aiming to offer the finest student experience possible. Keep an eye on our social media channels for updates on drop-in sessions, social event details, and opportunities to get involved!

Performance

Our club's competitive division consists of two teams for both women and men. We actively participate in the BUCS Scottish 1A & 2A leagues and have a remarkable track record of achievements, thanks to our top-notch training sessions and positive club environment. In the 2025/26 season our Womens 1st team will be playing in the BUCS Premiership North league meaning we are competing at the highest level of University Sport! Come along to tryouts at the start of each semester to meet our exceptional coaches and players and compete for a place on the court!

Training

We offer three weekly recreational training sessions, one of which is dedicated to development. This particular session is designed to cater to players who want to refine their technical volleyball skills. These sessions are not only a fantastic opportunity to forge new friendships but are also open to individuals of all skill levels, whether you're a beginner or an experienced player who prefers non-competitive play.

For those looking to take the next step beyond recreational play, our development team offers a balanced, growth-focused environment. With two structured training sessions each week, players can refine their skills while gradually adapting to a more competitive level of play. Guided by student coaches, the program is designed to build confidence, foster teamwork, and prepare athletes for future progression within the club. Our development team holds tryouts within the first few weeks of term - keep an eye on our socials for updates!

For players seeking a more competitive atmosphere, we hold two training sessions per week, alongside regular strength and conditioning sessions, for both men and women. Our dedicated head and assistant coaches put in tremendous effort to support the players and maintain the team's ongoing success. Our tryout dates will be published on our socials (@guvolleyball on instagram) so make sure to look for updates, players selected will be expected to attend BUCS matches on Sundays (Mens + Womens 2) or Wednesdays (Womens 1).

Wednesdays are all about Sports Night, where we have organised socials. And on Sundays, we kick back and relax with post-match hangouts. But that's not all! We also throw a fancy alumni ball once a year, and we even organise an epic week-long Tour abroad where we play volleyball and have an absolute blast.

Getting involved is super easy, and everyone is welcome in our inclusive and diverse community.

Insurance

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the appropriate insurance cover for any activity you take part in.  Upon joining, please check the level of insurance cover we, as a club, provide to you.

GUSA recommends that all students playing high risk sport, go abroad to compete/train, or are playing in governing body leagues, may want to consider/need to take out personal liability insurance, or join the sports governing body to be covered.  Some insurance providers also offer specialist sports cover.
