The annual showcase between Glasgow and Strathclyde University is back for 2026!
The Glasgow Rugby Varsity is the annual rugby showcase between Glasgow’s biggest university rivals: University of Glasgow and University of Strathclyde. This high-energy event brings together four fiercely competitive teams for an unforgettable evening of rugby action at Scotstoun Stadium, the home of the Glasgow Warriors.
Both the men’s and women’s fixtures take place on the same night, creating an electric atmosphere for fans. In 2025, the 3,000+ seater main stand was completely sold out, with incredible half-time performances from the Strathclyde Warriors Cheerleading Club adding to the spectacle.

A BRIEF HISTORY
The Glasgow Rugby Varsity began in 2016 with the men’s fixture. In 2023, history was made with the introduction of the women’s match and a landmark partnership with Glasgow Warriors, giving student athletes the incredible opportunity to play at a professional stadium and experience a game-day atmosphere like no other.
2025: GLASGOW’S YEAR!
For the first time ever, both Glasgow teams won in front of a sold-out Scotstoun crowd! It was a night of drama, passion, and unforgettable rugby as the men’s and women’s squads lifted their respective trophies and won the double!
