The University of Glasgow Gaelic Football Club is proud to announce that 17 members of our ladies team will be travelling to Prague this October to compete in the prestigious Liam O’Neill Plate - a tournament that brings together Gaelic football teams from Ireland, the UK, and across Europe.
The event, hosted by Prague Hibernians at Sport Mrázovka on Saturday 11th October from 9am to 4pm, marks a historic milestone for our club: the first time we’ll play competitive football outside the UK. This four-day trip represents more than just a tournament - it’s a celebration of growth, opportunity, and international connection.
Competing against other British universities and European clubs, our players will gain invaluable experience, develop their skills, and proudly represent the University of Glasgow on a global stage. Beyond the pitch, the team will enjoy sightseeing tours, themed challenge nights, and a post-tournament celebration hosted by Prague Hibernians and their sponsor - where we hope the celebrations will continue long into the night.
This trip reflects our club’s commitment to expanding Gaelic football across Europe, offering subsidised travel opportunities to our members, and strengthening the sense of community that defines our sport.
We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to those who made this trip possible:
- Prague Hibernians Gaelic Football Club for their kind invitation and exceptional organisation.
- Oisín Curran, British Universities Coordinator, for his tireless support and coordination throughout the planning process.
- GUSA (Glasgow University Sports Association) for their generous assistance with funding.
Roll on Prague - and best of luck to our ladies team as they make club history!
