Glasgow Uni Ladies Triumph in Prague!

The University of Glasgow Gaelic Football Club is thrilled to share that our ladies team have returned from Prague as champions of the Liam O’Neill Plate Tournament - marking a remarkable achievement in what was our first ever competitive outing outside the UK.

Seventeen players made the journey to the Czech capital, setting off from Buchanan Bus Station at 3:40am on Thursday 9th October, bright-eyed (mostly) and ready for an unforgettable weekend. A lively social the night before did little to dampen spirits, and from that moment the excitement was palpable.

Day one was all about travel and settling in. After arriving in Prague, the team enjoyed a walk around the city before heading out that evening for some well-earned team bonding at the local nightclubs - the perfect start to the trip.

On Friday, the group explored Prague’s iconic sights before joining our wonderful hosts, Prague Hibernians, and other visiting university teams for welcome drinks. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the warmth shown by everyone epitomised what the GAA is all about - a shared passion that connects people, no matter where in the world they are.

Saturday, 11th October, saw an early start as the girls travelled to Sport Mrázovka to compete in the tournament. The day began with a strong performance against the Prague Hibernians Ladies and continued with a series of matches that included two mixed games - combining players from both clubs. These games not only showcased the talent and sportsmanship on display but also built lasting friendships between the teams.

After a day of high-quality football and fantastic support from all involved, Glasgow Uni emerged victorious, lifting the Liam O’Neill Plate and securing a place in club history. While winning was the icing on the cake, the true success of the weekend lay in the memories made, the laughter shared, and the bonds formed both on and off the pitch.

The celebrations that followed were well-deserved - beginning with a beautiful team dinner hosted by our Prague friends before a final night out to toast the victory in true GUGAA style.

Sunday was devoted to recovery and travel, with everyone safely home and already reminiscing about what was an unforgettable experience.

This trip has been an incredible milestone for our club, showcasing the talent, determination, and spirit of our ladies team. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Prague Hibernians Gaelic Football Club for their exceptional hospitality and to everyone who made this opportunity possible.

Here’s to more memories, more milestones, and more Glasgow Uni success stories abroad. 🖤💛
